When swimming in an
outdoor pool, we have weather to contend with.
Unfortunately, we can not always expect warm, sunny days.
Here are some tips to consider this summer:
BARRACUDA
HOTLINE: 630-540-4911
Program this
into your cell phone or commit it to memory. No one wants to
get out of bed on a cold morning at 5:30 only to get to the
pool to find out that practice has been canceled. The
coaches will update this outgoing message on a daily basis
(perhaps multiple times on a given day). Even if the coaches
want to proceed with practice, please understand that the
Head Lifeguard at the pool has the final word as to whether
or not the swimmers will be allowed in the pool.
THORGUARD
If lightning is spotted or if the Thorguard alarm is set
off, the pool deck will be evacuated. Again, the decision to
clear the deck is the responsibility of the Head Lifeguard.
If Thorguard was activated, an “all clear” notification of
three alarm sounds will be heard.
INCLEMENT
WEATHER ON THE DAY OF A MEET
AT A
DUAL MEET A meet can not be
called prior to 30 minutes after the scheduled start time of
a meet. This means, if a meet is scheduled to start at
6:30pm, the meet can not be canceled prior to 7:00 pm.
Swimmers are expected to be at the pool, ready to swim, once
the pool is deemed safe. It is the decision of Head Referee
of the home team to call the end of the meet, however that
decision may be taken out of Referee's hand if the Park
District deems it unsafe to swim and closes the pool.
AT A CONFERENCE MEET (sections taken from the 2009 DSDC Rules Regulations and
Bylaws):
Rain without lightning – proceed with meet.
Rain with lightning – delay meet until lightning stops
up to a maximum of 7 hours (As meets usually run 6 hours, a
7-hour delay would end the meet at approximately 10pm). The
pool deck will be cleared as previously mentioned.
All efforts must be made to hold the meet, so all
swimmers are expected to be present and ready to swim. |
